global climate change – evaluate the natural and anthropogenic factors that cause a change in global and regional climates. modern climate change, future climate scenarios, policy, and mitigation strategies are also explored.
physical climatology – gain an overview of the physical processes that define earth’s global climate. movement of energy and water throughout the climate system, global circulation, distribution of climate types, land-atmosphere interactions, spatial and temporal patterns, climate variability and change, and analysis of climate data.
environmental public policy - develop the analytical tools required to understand and assess current environmental policy with the application of these tools to current environmental issues at the regional, national and international level.
career outlook for climate science practitioners:
climate science is a growing field that crosses many different occupations including, but not limited to policy making, management, science, engineering and government. the most recent intergovernmental panel on climate change (ipcc) report presented evidence of current climate change and predictions for the future. as a result, there is an increasing demand for employees with a high-level understanding of climate change, proficiencies in climate science techniques and geospatial data, the ability to analyze and interpret weather and climate data, and the skill to communicate the results of independent research.
